Describe Tomato Pollen

What does tomato pollen look like? If I vibrate the branch with an electric toothbrush, will the pollen be obvious.

Answer: Tomato plant pollen is like very fine dust...similar to baby powder, but yellow. Once the tomato flowers have fully opened, they should be ready to release their pollen. If you tap a couple of them with your finger and do not see any dust falling from them, they may need another day or so before they are ready. As long as you are in a well lit area, any pollen coming from the flowers should be fairly obvious.

Placing a black piece of paper right underneath the flower as you give it a couple of taps will make the pollen easier to see (assuming the flowers are ready). Flowering plants, in general, do not open until they are ready to give up their pollen. The only purpose flowers evolved on plants was to attract insects to help disperse their pollen....so the pollen should be ready very shortly after the flowers are open.
