How to Keep Grow Room at the Right Temperature?

by Kameron
(Florida )

How do I keep my plants at the right temperature? Will two household fans blowing on them work?

Answer: Kameron- two household fans will certainly blow enough air around; however, they will do nothing to help lower the temperature inside the garden. You should always have at least one or two thermometers inside the garden (one to measure the room air temp, and one to measure your hot spot directly under the light at plant level). If the room air temp goes over 75 or 78 degrees, you need to find a cool source of air to lower your temperatures. Ideally, you would be running the garden in such a way that your hot spot would run about 75 to 78 degrees, but with indoor gardening this can be a difficult goal (especially in Florida, and especially in the Summer).

During cooler months, many indoor growers simply pull cold (or substantially cooler) air from outdoors into the grow room. During Summer months, many indoor gardeners simply shut down for the season.... and others fire up the air conditioner! These are major options for controlling the heat, although other strategies can help in smaller ways (such as ventilating your grow lights with a completely separate exhaust system than the rest of the grow room). Check out my page on temperature and plant growth for a little more information on this subject, and Happy Growing!
