Using Maxsea Fertilizer with Soil

by Terry
(California)

Are your tips for soil the same as hydro when using the Maxsea fertilizer? And, I would like to know about trimming throughout the complete cycle so I won't have so many "water leafs" toward the end.

Answer: Terry- when using Maxsea fertilizer with soil, the application rate will depend on how many nutrients are already in your soil. For example, if you have put together a completely nutrient-free soil-less mix of peat, vermiculite, and perilite, than you will want to follow the same recommendations I give for using Maxsea in a hydroponic system (and give it to your plants whenever they require water). This is assuming you are growing plants that are considered "heavy feeding"....which include most garden vegetables and flowers that prefer full sun.

However, if you have put together a nutrient packed organic soil mix with FoxFarm, worm castings, bat guano, kelp meal, dolomite lime, blood meal, and bone meal, you may want to give your plants plain water for several weeks before supplementing their nutrients with any Maxsea. After several weeks, you may want to begin watering them with only a 50% strength mix of the nutrient solution.

The most important thing is to know the nutritional requirements of the plants you are growing, to know what nutrients already exist in soil mix, and to be able to tell when your plants might need a "little extra"....which is an intuition you acquire only after gardening the same types of plants over and over and over. Just remember, it is better to err on the side of too little....than your plants can give you some indication that they need something more. The alternative is a bunch of dead plants because of over-fertilization... I've seen it- very sad :(

Hope this helps, and Happy Growing!
