When to Start Seeds for
Different Garden Plants

by Pat
(Pa)

How long do you use the grow lights on the seeds from start till you take them outside?

Answer: Pat- the answer depends on what you are growing. Tomatoes and peppers, for instance, should be given 6 to 8 weeks indoors from start till you take them outside. Other plants, like lettuce, you should simply plants straight outdoors. Every plant is different. On my seed starting cheat sheet I list different varieties and when you should start them indoors, based on the weather here in Northern Ohio (which should be very similar to your weather in Pa).

You may also want to brush up on the best way to start and care for your seedlings. This information can be found on my starting seedlings page. And remember, just because there is only 5 weeks left before the last frost doesn't mean it is too late to start tomatoes and peppers....you will simply end up will a slightly smaller yield. I hope this helps you out Pat, and Happy Growing!
