Window Tomatoes 7 or 8 Inches

by Fran
(St. Louis Mo)

I planted tomato seeds. They are now 7"-8". When or what should I look for (or do) besides watering and feeding them? They look healthy. I used an electric toothbrush to vibrate them like bees 5 minutes at a time. I'm anxious for flowers. Thanks, Fran.

Answer: Fran- The most important thing is to keep watering and fertilizing your tomato plants as you have been. Even without vibration, tomato plants will still produce a small number of tomatoes. Once you see flowers on your tomato plants, that is when you want to begin stimulating with vibration to help the pollen exit the small openings in the tomato flowers.

Using vibration while your tomato plants have open flowers will help to increase both the number and size of the tomatoes you will eventually harvest. You should only need to stimulate the tomato flowers for about two weeks. After this window of time, the flowers will begin to shrivel and be replaced by the tomatoes themselves. At this point, just sit back and relax (keep watering and fertilizing)....and wait for those juicy tomatoes! I hope this helps you Fran, and Happy Growing!
